Braxton Family Values: Counseling Session Exposes Old Wounds

The Braxton Family Values gave us another thrilling moment of reality television last night as the T-named Braxton sisters went to a group counseling session in hopes of unraveling the underlined issues in their ongoing bickering.

On the heels of last week’s episode, when sisters Tamar Braxton, Trina Braxton, Traci Braxton, and Towanda Braxton failed to pull off a medley of superstar sister Toni Braxton’s best songs to perform at her induction to the Georgia Hall of Fame, the fighting hit a fever pitch of greater proportions. Toni was disappointed because she learned of her sisters pulling out the night of the induction which left the remaining sisters pointing fingers of blame at each other.

“I’m very disturbed that you guys didn’t sing at my induction to the Georgia Hall of Fame. … When you are being inducted into something, you call the people close to you. Everybody bailed on me,” Toni said.

The backdrop to that blow up was the blow up the siblings had while dining with Evelyn ‘Mommy’ Braxton.   The trenchant Tamar busts out Trina for her “oral-transaction” which prompted Trina to go into a foul-mouthed rant about her extra-marital encounter. Toni accused Tamar of becoming a mean girl and broke her usual reserved stance reminding the youngest sibling she didn’t want to challenge the “m*otherf*cking champ”. After the disastrous dinner, the siblings met at Toni’s house for a Mommy-called pow-wow where she spoke about her daughters “disappointing” behavior.

Now fast forward to this week’s much needed group counseling session. The sisters meet with the family’s counselor, Dr. Sherry and the drama begins from the jump. Dr. Sherry asks the sisters to take turns telling another sibling the issues they had with one another. Tamar started with asking Toni not to treat her as an assistant, but her sister. Then Toni’s turn took the session into another realm when she told Traci about her weight.

“I want Traci to lose 20-40 pounds now and stop thinking that her tummy sticking out like that is hot, ’cause it’s not,” Toni said.

A first quiet Traci became visibly infuriated, and then opted out of the session—storming out of the room. She returned and unleashed fifteen years of hurt and angst she had about becoming a teen mother and unable to sign a contract with The Braxton’s in the 90’s.

“I ain’t worth s**t to y’all! That’s what I feel. I’m not worth s**t to y’all, ’cause of the choices I made,” Traci said while slamming fists on the table. “Trina had a child way before me. She was pregnant. I got pregnant. Trina got to sing. I couldn’t sing.”

By now almost everyone is teary-eyed and in disbelief that Traci felt so strongly about not signing to the sister group earlier on. Dr. Sherry tries to bring the moment full circle by asking Traci how the sisters can move beyond that hurt.

“Don’t say nothing to me and I won’t say nothing to you.”

Well, after the session, ‘Mommy’ Braxton made dinner and brought the girls together where Toni suggested a sister’s retreat in Arizona to bond and work through healing old wounds.

The night ended well, but there is always next week.
