Sofia Vergara Wears Over $5M In Jewelry To Golden Globe Awards

UPDATE-When Modern Family star Sofia Vergara said she feels like “five million bucks!” she meant it.

The 2012 Golden Globes held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles was filled with surprises, not enough color, a few misses and lots of hits.

In the best dressed category Sofia Vergara was a hit! Vergara who admitted backstage she wasn’t wearing any underwear told Carson Daly on the red carpet, “I’m wearing Vera Wang and Harry Winston jewelry. I feel like five million bucks.” Sofia’s jewels were indeed worth over $5 million!

On the other side of the coin, winner for Best Actress in a comedy or musical Michelle Williams easily fell into the worst dressed category with a velvet gown that despite it’s simple silhouette was still too much. On the plus side we love the color!

Other mentions include Kate Winslet, Viola Davis, Angelina Jolie, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Charlize Theron and Natalie Portman.

Check out our list below and let us know who you thought was the best and worst on the Golden Globes red carpet and see all the stars in our Golden Globes Red Carpet gallery.

Natalie Portman

Again, the color is commendable but the design is so underwhelming. Natalie looks like she’s heading to her prom than a woman who won her first Golden Globe and Oscar last year.

Sarah Michelle Gellar

Reportedly Sarah told E! her daughter picked out this dress – why it was even an option is beyond us. We blame you Sarah.

Charlize Theron

This is a surprising miss for Charlize who usually makes the best dressed list. Kudos for taking a risk, just not the right one.

Michelle Williams

Luckily for Michelle she walked away with an award because the sting from the criticism of this dress could be long lasting.

Best Dressed:

Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie kept it simple with a hint of red in just the right places. Well done.

Kate Winslet

There is something to be said of a woman who knows her body. Kate Winslet has consistently shown she knows what looks good on her body type. This is a definite winner all around.

Viola Davis

Viola Davis may not have walked away a winner last night but she was a stunner in this flowing magenta gown.

Sofia Vergara

Sofia Vergara was absolutely stunning! From her accessories to the placement of her hair – this was the gown to beat.

Independent journalism doesn't fund itself.

We hope this story was worth your time. For over 14 years, Atlanta Black Star has stayed Black-owned and independently run. We didn't get here by waiting on ad budgets that were never built to prioritize us. Our readers did that.

Corporate support for Black media has always been thin. Outlets like ours get roughly 1% of the $170 billion spent on U.S. advertising each year, and that margin is shrinking further as advertisers walk back the DEI-linked commitments they made in 2020. That's the backdrop. It's not why we're asking.

We know a request for support isn't why you came here. But without readers choosing to fund this work directly, the depth of reporting we can do at home and abroad shrinks along with everyone else's. If you're not in a position to give, that doesn't change how much we value you as a reader.

If you are able to, a recurring contribution does more for us than a single one-time gift, because it lets us plan the next investigation instead of just the next invoice. It takes about 30 seconds, no long form, no account. Thank you for continuing to support independent journalism and freedom of the press.
