Denzel Washington is being sought out to star in ‘The Equalizer’ based off of the original crime action drama TV series. Sony Pictures announced today that it’s going to extend the three year deal to continue to finance the independent film and television production company called Escape Artists.
The original ‘Equalizer’, that starred Edward Woodard, followed a seasoned private detective who plays with a different set of rules than traditional law enforcement. His no-nonsense attitude coupled with him knowing the best of the best on both sides of the law makes him the most efficient detective. The TV series lived for four years before getting pulled in 1989. Richard Wenk is set to pen the film script. No word yet on who will direct the project.
Washington has worked with Escape Artists before on films such as ‘The Taking of Pelham 123’ and starred and directed ‘Antwone Fisher’ and ‘The Great Debaters’.
