M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming sci-fi project, ‘One Thousand A.E.’, starring Jaden and Will Smith, has been retitled ‘After Earth’.
“The Happening” film maker revealed the news via Twitter and also re-confirmed previous reports that principal photography on ‘After Earth’ is set to begin by February 2012.
As with most of Shyamalan’s films, moviegoers should expect excellent visual structure since most critics would agree the director definitely has an aptitude for shot composition and spectacular cinematography.
There is , however, some speculation that the writing may lag behind the visuals as it did in Shayamalan’s previous two dissappointers, “The Last Airbender” and “The Happening”.
Interesting enough though, ‘After Earth’ just may turn things around for Shayamalan, since writer Gary Whitta (‘The Book of Eli’) and Oscar-winner Stephen Gaghan have had their hand in developing the screenplay. Gaghan reportedly is going to continue polishing the screenplay until production officially begins.
‘After Earth’ will feature Jaden and Will Smith as a father-son duo who crash-land on a post-apocalyptic Earth, nearly a millennium after humankind has abandoned the planet. It is expected to hit U.S. theaters on June 7th, 2013.
