Queen Latifah’s triple threat status as a singer, actress, Cover Girl model, and most recently producer remains solid with her latest creative venture Single Ladies.
Single Ladies is a “Sex In The City” style sitcom which features the dating antics of single, predominately African American women living in Atlanta. Recently Latifah did a cameo where she played a hot mouth news reporter who accidentally let slipped that she had a “lesbian” experience with her former roommate Val, played by Stacy Dash on the show.
Not since Latifah played Cleo in Set It Off, has a character caused the media to yet again ponder “Is she, or Isn’t she??”
Latifah has more recently rumored to be connected with her long time friend and personal trainer Jeanette Jenkins. The Advocate, one of the most prominent Gay and Lesbian publications, released information that Latifah and Ms. Jenkins had in fact purchased a property in the Hollywood Hills where they were both listed as co-owners of the deed.
Many assumed that Queen Latifah would take that opportunity to address her sexuality in a more direct manner. However when later interviewed by People Magazine, Latifah simply replied;
“My private life is my private life. Whomever I might be with, I don’t feel the need to share it. I don’t think I ever will.”
But when questioned this week by TV Guide if the actress was planning on coming out as openly gay, Latifah gave an even more interesting response that may suggest the recent cameo was simply a deliberate plug to further titillate the media’s curiosity.
“There is no need to discuss it any further. But, hey, if [the tabloids] can have fun with me, I can have fun with them, right?”
One thing is for certain, although much of the media and general public have already seemed to make up their minds regarding Latifah’s sexual orientation; The Queen herself doesn’t seem to be budging anytime soon.
