Despite Erica Garner’s mother telling a newspaper that the activist is brain dead, Reggie Harris, the political advisor who is running her official Twitter account is refuting those claims.

Harris tweeted from Garner’s official account Thursday, Dec. 28 slamming the New York Daily News’ earlier report that the 27-year-old is brain dead with no hope for recovery.

“She’s not gone, she’s brain dead,” Garner’s mother, Esaw Snipes said. “Physically she is still with us.”

The jump to such a conclusion even led Brooklyn City Councilman Jumanee Williams to prematurely tweet about her death. He wrote, “As we sent prayers up…so sorry to hear the news. RIP @es_snipes. That family still needs us #Garner.”

Harris denounced that statement, leading Williams to delete the post.

The Daily News article has since been updated to include Snipes remarks that Garner is “still here with us. She just needs some time to heal, that’s it.”

And according to another tweet, doctors say Garner has some brain activity.

The mother of two had been brought to Brooklyn, N.Y.’s Woodhull Hospital  Saturday, Dec. 23 after an asthma attack brought on a heart attack and subsequent cardiac arrest.
