Michael Vick won the starting quarterback job to open the Philadelphia Eagles’ season, but lost the battle with health and then lost the position to Nick Foles, who has led the team to the playoffs.
But Vick said he remains confident that he has the skill set to start in the NFL, and told CSNPhilly.com that he will start at quarterback in the NFL next season, when he will be 34.
“I don’t worry about it,” Vick said, according to the website. “My skill set is still there, my arm is still there, my legs are still there, I’m still a playmaker, that’s evident. I think at some point, I’ll be playing somewhere.”
Vick injured his hamstring on Oct. 6 against the New York Giants and eventually lost the spot to Foles, who has been outstanding.
Injuries have derailed Vick’s outstanding comeback that started in 2009; he has not played a full season since joining the Eagles. Still, he is unfazed, saying “at some point I’ll be back out there.”
Vick passed for 1,215 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions in seven games this season. He completed just 54.6 percent of his passes and fumbled three times. He also rushed for 306 yards and two touchdowns with one lost fumble. Foles passed for 2,891 yards and 27 touchdowns with just two interceptions in 13 games as he helped the Eagles win the NFC East title. He completed 64 percent of his passes and fumbled twice. He also had 221 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
Vick said he’d be willing to return to the Eagles as a backup if he does not sign with a team to become its starter. And he insists that is not his concentration now, as the team makes its move in the playoffs.
“It all depends what happens, where I’m at in my career. Never rule it out,” he said of returning to Philadelphia, according to CSNPhilly.com. “But I’m not thinking of that right now. I’m not thinking about the future. I’m just thinking about doing whatever I can to help this team win a Super Bowl.”
