Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s fundraiser for President Obama was a fancy affair, but they weren’t scared to joke around and have some fun. An Instagram picture of the pair with the president and an unknown event guest brushing imaginary dirt off their shoulder—an obvious reference to the Jay-Z hit song, a reference Obama made during the 2008 campaign—has made its way around the media.
They were all well dressed with the three men in dapper suits and Beyoncé in a stunning form-fitting red dress; they all had smiles to match their attire. Those smiles shouldn’t be surprising since the $40,000-a-head fundraiser garnered $4 million in donations, with 100 guests in attendance.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z have been open supporters of the president and had nothing but nice words for him during the event. “I can’t tell you how proud we are to host tonight’s event with President Obama … we believe in his vision,” she told guests as she introduced him.
Obama was equally grateful to the couple for hosting the event.
“Beyoncé could not be a better role model for our daughters because she carries herself with such class and poise,” he said. “And has so much talent.”
He also joked the himself and Jay-Z have very similar lives. “Jay-Z now knows, you know, what my life is like,” he continued. “We both have daughters. And our wives are more popular than we are … So we’ve got a little bond there. It’s hard, but it’s OK.”
The event was inarguably a success. Adam 12 of She Wants Revenge applauded the power couple for their dedication to the Obama campaign. “I think it sends an important message for Jay-Z and Beyoncé to throw this fundraiser … that it’s important for people that support the president to actually support the president,” said Adam 12 to MTV. “I know that Jay-Z and Beyoncé had gotten some flak recently for not supporting their community. I think this just goes to show that they do support their community.”
