Anthony Mackie To Play First Black Marvel Comic Book Hero Falcon

Anthony Mackie is in talks to star as Falcon in Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Marvel continues their push to release more superhero movies with the next installment being Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Anthony Mackie is next to be added to the comic book franchise as he is finishing negotiations to star as The Falcon.

Falcon/Sam Wilson was created by comic legend Stan Lee in 1969. He made his first appearance in Captain America issue #117 and was Marvel’s first African American superhero. Wilson was a Harlem social worker who has the ability to telepathically communicate with birds. While in his power-enhanced costume, he manages to soar along-side of Captain America with a flight harness he created.

The studio is keeping the plot and character details tight lipped, but it’s speculated that the film will follow Ed Brubaker’s Winter Soldier storyline. Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be directed by brothers Anthony and Joe Russo with Stephen McFeely writing the screenplay.

Mackie has become a household name since his performance in The Hurt Locker. He also made an appearance earlier this year in Man On A Ledge and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
