Jackie Chan recently told Cannes Film Festival reporters that he is done making films with bone-crushing action. So does that mean fans will never get a chance to see the martial arts actor reunite with funnyman Chris Tucker? Well Chan didn’t say never, nor in a million years.
While speaking at the Cannes press conference, Jackie Chan announced that Chinese Zodiac, the Indiana Jones styled treasure-hunting film he’s there promoting, was his last action movie. However, Chan added, “In the future I’ll still do Karate Kid 2, Rush Hour 4…”
The statement, combined with the fact that Chan’s Rush Hour director friend, Brett Ratner, tagged along with him to Cannes to help promote Chinese Zodiac, sparked speculation that the fourth installment of the action comedy movie was in the works. However, the Chinese actor told Empire there would not be any Rush Hour 4 anytime soon.
“No, no, no! I don’t want it to happen at this moment,” Chan told the outlet, shaking his head furiously. “Probably another five or ten years. Then will be Rush Hour 4 – boom, we’re coming back! And at that time I might retire. Us being old guys might make it a more interesting story. But at this moment I don’t think it’s something I want to do.”
So there you have it. Rush Hour fans better not hold their breath because Jackie Chan is in no rush to do Rush Hour 4.
