The past 24 hours has been nothing but busy for directors Matt Reeves and Rupert Wyatt.
In a bizarre twist of fate, Matt Reeves has left directing a film version of The Twilight Zone and been named at the top of a short list to direct Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. However, as nothing official has been reported, Rupert Wyatt is currently set to direct Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, but reports have been surfacing online speculating how uncomfortable the director is with having the film ready for release in May 2014.
This is indeed interesting, especially when one considers that Rupert Wyatt was also one name amongst a few to direct The Twilight Zone before execs decided to go with Matt Reeves. Reeves was able to land the project even while competing with the likes of Wyatt, Christopher Nolan, and even Michael Bay. Who knew the world of film directing could be as topsy turvy as a Monday afternoon soap opera.
Matt Reeves should be known for 2008’s Cloverfield by now,. as well as his Americanized remake of Let the Right One In, aptly titled Let Me In. Rupert Wyatt is the director behind 2011’s reboot of the Planet of the Apes series, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which featured the likes of John Lithgow, James Franco and Andy Serkis.
It’s difficult to sift through the false claims on this one. On one hand you have a reputable director in Matt Reeves leaving a widely sought after film due to “scheduling conflicts.” One the other, you have an artistic director in Rupert Wyatt wanting and needing more time on the follow up to his seminal success.
