Beyonce and Jay-Z are coming under fire for choosing Cuba as their vacation destination on their fifth anniversary.
Several U.S politicians and Cuban rights lobbyists are furious with the megastar couple for taking a trip to Cuba in the midst of all human rights issues that are taking place in that nation now.
Mauricio Claver-Carone, Washington, D.C.-based director for the US – Cuba Democracy PAC, told TMZ: “There are women getting beaten on a daily basis, women who are being jailed for no reason … people are fighting for their freedom. It’s extremely insensitive.”
Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) and Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) are also interested in how the two stars were permitted to visit Cuba. For decades, it has been illegal for U.S. citizens to travel to Cuba solely as tourists.
While there are tons of beautiful destinations the couple could have chosen, what about all the other countries with serious human rights problems that the government ignores?
Women in Israel are beaten too. Women in Afghanistan are killed if they are raped. “Honor” killings occur in Pakistan. What about the brutal rapes in the Democratic Republic of Congo? What about the women forced to undergo genital mutilation and married without a choice in Mali?
