Diddy gave fans little to no insight into his thought process while discussing the viral throwback paparazzi image he uploaded of himself and his ex Jennifer Lopez during an interview with Vanity Fair on Tuesday, Aug. 3.
The initial trolling pic heard all around the social media world was posted in May after it was rumored that Lopez and her ex-fiancé, actor Ben Affleck rekindled their relationship. The singer ultimately confirmed the news months later.
Diddy told the publication that he and Lopez are just friends despite what people may have initially thought of his now-deleted post. “It wasn’t no trolling involved. That’s just my friend.”
He continued by saying that he didn’t have any additional comments on the “Let’s Get Loud” vocalist’s personal life. “And I don’t have nothing to say about her relationship or her life.”
The mogul and Lopez initially met in 1997 on the set of his music video for “Been Around the World” and began dating in 1999 around the same time he was with Kim Porter. The former couple split in 2001 after Diddy’s alleged infidelities and his legal troubles at the time.
The issues stemmed from a 1999 Manhattan nightclub triple shooting. Both Diddy and Lopez were arrested and charged after leaving the scene. The singer’s weapon’s charge was ultimately dropped while Diddy went to trial in 2001 for gun possession and bribery. That same year, he was later acquitted of all charges.
The father of six also revealed during the September issue of Vanity Fair regardless of his actions in posting the throwback image the only woman who could have tamed his bachelor ways was his ex and the mother of his three children, Kim Porter. Diddy and Porter dated on and off for 13 years. In 2007, following several failed attempts of reconciliation, the pair decided to end their romantic relationship but continued to co-parent their children until the model’s untimely death in 2018 from pneumonia.
He opened up about wishing he’d had more time with her. “And so, you know, I had to start to deal with it when I lost Kim. ‘Cause I was like, man, you had it. I’m not saying I would do any of it differently. God willing — I would have had more time.”
