Things are all good between Nick Cannon and ViacomCBS following past controversial remarks by Cannon — remarks many considered to be anti-Semitic, multiple outlets have reported.
With this relationship between Cannon and ViacomCBS restored, VH1’s “Wild N’ Out” will now resume production, Deadline reported on Thursday, Feb. 4. Past episodes of the show are also slated to start airing again on the cable network — which is part of the ViacomCBS MTV Entertainment Group umbrella — in the coming week. The competition show that features a series of comedy challenges was renewed for three more seasons before Cannon’s now-infamous comments.
“I want to assure my Jewish friends, new and old, that this is only the beginning of my education—I am committed to deeper connections, more profound learning and strengthening the bond between our two cultures today and every day going forward,” the actor said in a statement Thursday, Feb. 4.
The “Love Don’t Cost a Thing” star was terminated from the media company after he made a series of contentious remarks during an episode of his “Cannon’s Class” podcast, including one that suggested that Jewish people controlled several significant media companies. The 40-year-old referred to white people as “savages” and “animals.”
Cannon ultimately apologized for his statements and even met up with Rabbie Yoni Dahlen, a prominent Jewish figure, to discuss the incident.
A spokesperson for ViacomCBS’ MTV Entertainment Group released a statement stating, “Nick has not only apologized and taken responsibility for his comments, but he has also worked to educate himself and others through engagement with Jewish leaders and on his platforms.” They added, “Those efforts are of the utmost importance, and that’s why we have invited him to rejoin our team.”
Writer Matt Walsh attempted to slam the Nickelodeon alum over his newfound reconciliation with his former employer. The known conservative figure accused Cannon of having “privilege,” however, Cannon’s fans quickly came to his defense.
One fan argued, “That privilege is called talent.” They added, “Something anyone can benefit from regardless of race.”
“It’s called leverage,” another person expressed. “His RESUME and his money making show, gives him leverage not privilege. Please, learn the difference and have a great day.”
These days, Cannon is quarantining and resting after he tested positive for COVID-19, a representative for the star revealed. Actress Niecy Nash will take over hosting duties on FOX-TV’s “The Masked Singer” until Cannon is able to return. ViacomCBS also mentioned that reps from the organization reached out upon learning of Cannon’s condition to wish him a speedy recovery.
