Feuding Karl-Anthony Towns and Joel Embiid Take On-the-Court Brawl to Social Media

As if an on-court fight during Wednesday night’s game between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Minnesota Timberwolves were not enough, 76ers player Joel Embiid took to social media to mock his longtime rival. And Wolves player Karl-Anthony Towns kept the beef going online.

It all started when the Timberwolves began talking trash leading up to this week’s game with the 76ers. A video Towns shared to his Instagram page Oct. 29 saw him and his teammates racing up the iconic set of stairs leading to the Philadelphia Museum of Art that fictional boxer Rocky Balboa trained on in the hit film “Rocky.”

“Cheesesteaks on me after this run 😂” the post was captioned.

During the game, Towns and Embiid were ejected ahead of the 76ers’ 117-95 win over the Timberwolves Wednesday night. Afterward, Embiid bragged on Twitter by mocking a woman he said was Towns’ mother for flipping him the bird. Ex-Wolves center Cole Aldrich identified Towns’ mom and dad in the crowd, according to Yahoo Sports.

“Great team win!!! I was raised around lions and a cat pulled on me tonight lmao.. Got his mama giving middle fingers left and right. That’s some SERIOUS REAL ESTATE #FightNight #IAintNoB—h,” he wrote.

Towns shot back on Instagram and Twitter in the early hours of Thursday morning uploading a series of photos of their brawl. A final image saw Embiid sobbing during a postgame press conference following Philadelphia’s loss to the Raptors during the playoffs last season.

“I aIN’t nO B—H RaiSeD ARoUnD LiOnS 🧢🧢🧢🧢🧢🧢 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡#B—hTalk,” he tweeted mimicking Embiid with clown and cap emoji.

Also in the wee hours of Halloween Thursday, Embiid responded by tweeting screenshots of more trash-talk from Instagram before concluding, “I’m done talking trash🏆🏆🏆👀”

Among his Instagram remarks were his slamming of Towns for “talking after a 20pts loss.”

“Go ahead using that pic of me caring about losing in the second round OF THE PLAYOFFS. Oh wait you’ve never been there. You don’t know what it’s like,” he said in part.
