One could say that Mathew Knowles cherishes the years of Destiny’s Child, the group he founded and originally named Girl’s Tyme.
Because, in April of this year, he said that a stage production is on the way called “Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical.” Plus, in September, Knowles stated that he had an unreleased Destiny’s Child album in his clutches and hinted at releasing it, since he owns the rights.
Now the 67-year-old said he’s putting out a Girl’s Tyme album that’s never been released, and it’ll soon be available digitally.
“Unreleased Girl’s Tyme album coming soon on all streaming platforms! 🌟 #musicworldentertainment#musicworldwednesday#girlstyme#destinyschild#unreleasedmusic,” he wrote next to a video.
Besides Knowles’ daughter Beyoncé, Girl’s Tyme consisted of Kelly Rowland, Letoya Luckett, LaTavia Roberson, Támar Davis, as well as sisters Nina and Nikki Taylor.
In the clip, Knowles speaks for a bit and introduces a song from “Girl’s Tyme,” which is a remake of Michael Jackson‘s 1972 cut “I Wanna Be Where You Are.” The song would be covered by a number of acts over the years, and Marvin Gaye released a version in 1976.
The Girl’s Tyme rendition consists of a ’90s hip-hop style drum track and breathy vocals, which people immediately commented on.
“Wow u have blessed us tonight 😩❤️🙌🏾,” someone wrote.
“They sound good!💙” wrote another person.
“Love these girls ❤️, a third fan stated.
Girl’s Tyme formed in Houston, Texas, and in 1993 they appeared on the now defunct TV show “Star Search” but lost to the rock band Skeleton Crew. Beyoncé included a clip of that loss in the video for her song “Flawless” off her self-titled 2013 album.
But before that, Beyoncé, Rowland, Luckett and Roberson signed to Columbia Records in 1997 and became Destiny’s Child.
Luckett and Roberson were eventually put out of the group and replaced by Farrah Franklin and Michelle Williams. Franklin then left the group in less than a year, and Destiny’s Child would go the rest of the way as an ultra-successful trio.
Knowles said the “Girl’s Tyme” album would be arriving in December of this year.
