Tracee Ellis Ross is going into the hair care business, and she made the announcement Tuesday on Instagram.
Her product is called Pattern, which she explained is for “curly, coily and tight textured hair,” mainly for women with 3B to 4C textures.
And it’s not something the “black-ish” actress just thought of. Pattern has been in the works for 10 years. She’s also been tweaking the product over the past couple of years just to get it right.
“@patternbeauty is the result of 20 years of dreaming, 10 years in the making (I wrote my first brand pitch in 2008, right when girlfriends finished ) and 2 years of working with chemists. I’m so excited to share this with y’all,” wrote Ellis Ross.
Elsewhere in her message, the 46-year-old explained that Pattern has formulas with safe ingredients, and 74 different samples were tested by a panel to come up with seven formulas.
The line will be available for purchase on Sept. 9 at 9 a.m. ET at Patternbeauty.com, and Ellis Ross said she wanted to keep prices moderate so everything can be purchased by the average consumer.
Products will range from $9 to $42, which will include three conditioners, a leave-in conditioner, two serums, shampoo, a hair clip, shower brush and microfiber towel.
“@patternbeauty is for those of us who need more than a quarter size of product,” wrote Ellis Ross. “Large conditioner sizes that actually fulfill the unmet needs of our community.”
“Accessible pricing because everyone should have access to their most beautiful hair in their own shower,” she added. “And gorgeous packaging that conjures the legacy of our history and makes us all feel like the royalty that we are.”
Ellis Ross gave more details about the product during an interview with Allure as well.
“I had logged hours and hours in the trenches with my hair,” she explained. “Many of us can chronicle the journey of our self-acceptance through the journey of our hair. I think, in all honesty, the timing is perfect.”
