Lil Wayne Announces Plans to Retire From Rap

Lil Wayne is retiring from the rap game.

In an interview with MTV’s Sway Calloway, the Young Money CEO announced after he released I Am Not A Human Being II and The Carter V, he would be retiring from music. To many, it would make sense to rename I Am Not A Human Being II but Weezy wants to give his fans a chance to adjust to the idea of him leaving music.

“I know y’all want me around for a little bit, and Carter V is my last album,” Weezy told Calloway. “Man, I’ve been rappin’ since I was 8 years old. I’m 30 now, man. That’s a long time, man.”

Although Wayne has had a stellar career, he’s realistic about the fact that he might not always be at the top of the rap game.  “I signed my contract at 11, I went platinum at 14. I’m 30 now. Thank God I haven’t put out an album that hasn’t went platinum,” he said. “To just keep it goin’ like that, I think not only am I being greedy, I’m fooling myself to think that it will continue to be that great.”

Although he won’t be rapping anymore, the “No Worries” rapper doesn’t plan to rest on his laurels. Leaving music will give him a chance to work on another passion of his: skateboarding.

“I’d be a skater/sports analyst,” said Wayne. “My day job will probably be sports analyst and I’ll skate all night instead of being in the studio all night.”

Skateboarding started out as a hobby for Weezy but it has quickly turned into a part of his lifestyle. He has opened up skateparks, including one in his hometown New Orleans, and his clothing line, Trukfit, is inspired by skateboarding.

“Skating is a world, it’s a world… it’s a life, it’s a world, it’s, it’s own and I didn’t know that,” he admitted. “I thought it was four wheels and piece of wood. I didn’t know that. Now I know it’s a world and I just wanna be vital in that world.”

He also has plans to collaborate with another rapper to do a sports show. “My big brother Nelly and I… him and I we got a sports show coming out,” he continued. “We don’t have a station, we’re just doin’ it ourselves right now.”

Another potential reason Wayne might be leaving music is his health. The rapper also revealed that he is on seizure medication following his health scare last month. While talking to MTV, he got a little worried when the room got a bit stuffy. “Please let them know that I have an air unit, but because of the sound, they don’t want the air on, so it’s super hot in here,” he said. “I don’t want y’all to think I’m on nothing, man. I’m on seizure medicine. That’s all.”
