Steve Harvey’s radio show is getting into the Christmas spirit by throwing it back to the comedian’s dig at himself over this famous Miss Universe gaffe.
In 2015, Harvey was the joke of the Twitterverse when he hosted the annual pageant and mistakenly crowned Miss Colombia the winner, rather than Miss Philippines, who was the actual winner listed on the card.
The following week, he took it in stride and said on Instagram, “Merry Easter y’all! 🎄🎄🎄” on Christmas Day. By the next year, Harvey capitalized off his joke and launched a line of “Merry Easter” Christmas sweaters.
“This year, in the spirit of the holidays and after my playful ‘Merry Easter’ post last year on Instagram, I’m promoting my own line of ‘ugly holiday sweaters,'” he wrote on Facebook in November 2016. “The Harvey family has a tradition of ugly sweater parties during the holiday season. And yes, this year I’m poking fun at myself and letting you all in on the laughs. Enjoy this sweater, as a gift from me to you!”
Reminding fans that Harvey is once again hosting the Miss Universe pageant Sunday, Dec. 16, “The Steve Harvey Morning Show” uploaded a clip of the host promoting his sweater line on air two years ago.
“Merry Easter everybody from all of us at the Miss Universe pageant,” Harvey exclaims in the throwback clip uploaded by @steveharveyfm Dec. 13.
Much like he in-studio staff in the video, fans who watched it couldn’t help burst into laughter.
“😂😂😂 reminded me of Eddie Murphy, Merry New Year lol.”
“😂😂😂 are you serious!!!”
“🤣😂🤣 Hilarious!”
“Lol! I want one!”
“They are not laughing now 😂😂”
“🤦🏽♀️ 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 🤦🏽♀️”
“SALUTE KING KEEP’EM LAUGHIN.”
The 2018 show will mark Harvey’s fourth year as host of the pageant, which hails from the Miss Universe Organization. According to the website it “empowers women to develop the confidence they need to achieve their personal best.”
