Da Brat is denying an accusation that she’s gotten help from Mariah Carey to make payments while she sorts through her bankruptcy.
The former cheerleader who sued Da Brat for attacking her in a club wants permission to search through the rapper’s financial records. Shayla Stevens won a $7 million judgment against Da Brat for the 2007 attack and filed court documents to be able to see Da Brat’s income, bank records and other financial documents.
Stevens wants Da Brat to hand over any paperwork relating to contacts and collaborations with others “(whether compensated or not), including but not limited to her public statement that she has the ability to obtain funds to pay Plaintiff in this case from either Jermaine Dupri or Mariah Carey,” according to documents obtained by The Blast Thursday, Nov. 8.
Stevens wants the ability to review Da Brat’s finances to figure out how to proceed in her case again the MC, who owes Stevens a total of $8,155,731 — the $6 million verdict and additional interest.
By Monday, Nov. 5, the “Dish Nation” host filed a response to her accuser.
“Mariah Carey — she’s the Debtor’s friend. There are no relevant financial transactions or documents or financial ESI between Debtor and Ms. Carey,” the reply read.
It’s not clear if Da Brat has gotten financial assistance from So So Def Records founder Dupri.
Da Brat has been battling Stevens for a while and the latest battle came in October. The plaintiff and her legal team argued Da Brat should be put in contempt of court for not paying the judgment and for failing to comply with a discovery order. But Da Brat was granted protection from paying anything to Stevens as long as she is going through bankruptcy. Da Brat also managed to avoid jail time in the matter.
