Rihanna packs on the metaphors in her new video for “Diamonds”. Directed by Anthony Mandler, whose helmed past RiRi vids like “Disturbia” and “Only Girl (In the World)”, the mini-movie jumbles together several interrelated scenes: Rihanna running down a pitch-black road, laying in a room where broken items are fixed through a magical rewind, standing amid apocalyptic ruins, and floating in the sea, arms out in a cross like she’s waiting to be baptized.
Is she trying to escape from the ruins of the past, or is she looking for redemption with her own diamond?
