Two Seattle Seahawks players suffered an earful of hate Sunday after a white woman followed them into work at the team’s facility and proceeded to make false claims, spewing expletives at them over recent player protests during the national anthem.
Cornerback Neiko Thorpe shared a video of the bizarre incident on social media this week. Teammate and defensive back Mike Tyson was also in the car at the time.
“… You can’t get up and be a man,” the woman says through her car window. “Get off your little f—–g knees and not represent the [country] that made you what you are?”
“You start your morning off like that?” one of the players asks, chuckling. They then ask the woman’s name, to which she responds, “I’m not telling you my f—–g name. What’s your name?”
“Big Mike,” Tyson tells her.
“F—k off. I don’t care whoever you are,” she replies. “All I care about is the fact that my tax dollars pay for you to play, and go f—–g play. And get off your f—–g knees.”
While the woman was clearly upset over players’ on-field demonstrations, her claims that her tax dollars pay the men’s salaries are flat out wrong. According to Yahoo Sports, the NFL and its teams get their money via season-ticket holders, broadcast contracts, sponsors and other paying customers. No taxpayer dollars are involved whatsoever.
The sports site also pointed out that Tyson was on the Seahawks roster for just the last three weeks of the season and was never in uniform, so there’s no way he could have participated in the player protests. Thorpe played 14 games last season, but it’s unclear if he took a knee or not.
