Next year’s Super Bowl halftime show will be headlined by none other than Beyonce, as confirmed by the Associated Press and the diva herself. A picture posted to Beyonce’s tumblr Tuesday afternoon showed the artist in eye black, with “Feb. 3” written under one eye, and “2013” underneath the other. Of course that date coincides with Super Bowl XLVII, which will be held in New Orlean’s Mercedes-Benz Superdome. An anonymous source reported confirmed the same news to the AP earlier in the day.
Beyonce will be bringing her talents to America’s most watched event for the first time since 2004, when she sang the national anthem in front of her hometown Houston crowd. The 31-year-old triple threat star has built up quite a resume since then, and now with 16 Grammy Awards under her belt, and standing arguably as the world’s most recognized star, Beyonce will take center stage.
Last year’s show was headlined by Madonna, who performed alongside special guests CeeLo Green, LMFAO, Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. That performance brought in 114 million viewers, a mark higher than that of the actual game. Beyonce’s present-day star power is greater than that of the 80’s material girl, and will likely bring in an even wider audience. Special guests could range from fellow Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, Dream Girls co-star Jennifer Hudson, or her husband Jay-Z.
New Orleans will be hosting the Super Bowl for the first time in a decade, and for the first time since Hurricane Katrina. The Pepsi NFL Halftime Show will no doubt be one of the occasion’s many highlights.
