Omarosa Manigault Newman dropped a bomb on “Celebrity Big Brother” and now she’s ducking and dodging questions about it.
The former White House director of communications said on a February episode of the reality show that, “it’s gonna not be OK. It’s not. It’s so bad.” The remark led housemate Ross Mathews to stay on his toes regarding the Donald Trump administration.
So when she stopped by “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” Wednesday, Feb. 28 and the late night host asked her if she still believes in those comments, the now-eliminated contestant danced around the subject.
“It was a part of a bigger discussion, we were talking about immigration and roundups,” Omarosa says of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy plans. “Particularly, we were talking about a family, of a man who had been in the country for 30 years and had been sent back and Ross was expressing his concern about what was happening with immigration. So that was part of a bigger discussion. And I believe that the immigration debate will continue. And it’s a very difficult and complicated subject and I don’t believe it can be resolved so simply and that was a part of the discussion and that’s why I was a bit emotional.”
She went on to mention immigrants from Haiti and El Salvador who are being deported, leading Colbert to try to clarify once more if she was referring specifically to DACA.
“Stephen, we have an opportunity to make it OK,” she responds. “And I don’t want 15 seconds on a reality show to encapsulate such a serious topic.”
Then, Colbert asks her yet again what she meant by her comments.
“We’ll have to wait and see,” she says.
