Jada Pinkett Smith gave a prime example of what happens when women ban together. The “Girls Trip” actress spoke on “sister solidarity” at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, referencing Octavia Spencer and Jessica Chastain’s “favored nations” deal for an upcoming movie project. Within the entertainment industry, according to Entertainment Media and Law”, a favored nations deal is a “contractual commitment that no other relevant party will receive ‘better’ (or more advantageous) terms from the party making the commitment.”

Smith reiterated, “Octavia went to Jessica and said ‘I’m not getting paid what I should be getting paid, Jessica’ and Jessica said to Octavia ‘I got you.'” Smith pointed out the importance of women sticking together in order to ‘get things done’ behind the scene. In the end, Chastain and Spencer received three-times more than their initial offer.
