With the uproar surrounding DJs who simply “push buttons” in the Electronic Dance Music scene, now is the right time to introduce DJ Enferno.
Embedded in the scene since childhood, Enferno, who is also a trained pianist, won 2nd place in the DMC Championship of 2003 and was subsequently Madonna’s DJ for her 2008-09 tour. His accomplishments make one thing evident: the man’s got talent.
Not only are his skills in scratching and mixing apparent in his sets, his ability to perform live remixes is astonishing, distinguishing him from your average CD-toting, button-pushing club DJ.
A breathe of fresh air for EDM enthusiasts, DJ Enferno’s “Live Remix Project” is a must-see experience. Seeing Enferno live will leave you awestruck; merely listening to his sets does not do the man justice. He utilizes two turntables, a mixer and various midi-controllers in his sets. Whether he’s tapping 16th notes on his midi-pad, creating an epic build up or dropping beautiful chord progressions, Enferno is doing it live. He’s a technical Wizard of OZ—curtain not included.
In Enferno’s case, the yellow brick road doesn’t end there; the effect he has on the crowd is what is really interesting. The average club-goer expects a night of great music that, in its most basic form, is one awesome track after another in a seamless manner.
Enferno brings along a little twist: he turns what you hear into something tangible – and it’s that very fact that captures the audience. It’s beautiful really, witnessing how every one of his movements corresponds to another bump, another grind and another fist pump in the crowd.
Now I’m not placing Enferno (not yet at least) on the level of say Tiesto, Deadmau5 or Kaskade—he has yet to earn that kind of public recognition, but there is definitely something to be said about liveDJing. It is literally an exhibition of a fundamental step in music production, known as arrangement, happening right before your eyes…
