Zoe Saldana and Bradley Cooper, the stars of the new movie “The Words,” reportedly have been engaged in a tumultuous off-screen relationship, but whether it’s no off or on, their on-screen chemistry is undeniable.
The two of them spoke recently about their initial reaction to the movie and their on-screen pairing. The low-budget movie, based on the book by –, has been in the works for the last 13 years.
“After Colombiana (in which she plays an assassin)I was a bit spent and really wanted to take a breath,” Saldana said to the Hollywood Reporter.
Saldana said if she was going to act, “I wanted to shoot guns. I wanted to play strong roles.” That would not be the character in “The Words,” a low-budget indie in which she plays Cooper’s wife.
Saldana said she fell in the love with the script for “The Words.”
“It was the kind of story that I would have loved to read as a book,” says Saldana. “I wasn’t looking for a role like Dora, but then I saw what she really was about. She was a very strong woman. She was very unconditional. She was very supportive.”
“It’s a tremendous love story between Dora and Rory — a story that everyone can relate to,” Cooper said. “The power of their love can almost surpass any obstacle — in a real way, not in a movie way.”
According to critics, the chemistry Saldana and Cooper share makes the movie. When she is asked about the dating rumors swirling around her and Bradley Cooper, Saldana would only offer a smile and a coy, “No comment.”
