Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey Spark Feud For American Idol Ratings?

Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey are starting off the new season of American Idol with tension already in the air.

During the 12th season of American Idol auditions, R&B diva Mariah Carey was reportedly interrupting hip hop’s current lead lady Nicki Minaj when she tried to critique the contestants.

According to TMZ, Minaj responded by talking louder and louder in order to drown out Nick Cannon’s wife… and we all know Minaj has never had a problem getting loud.

Although it isn’t clear why, the ladies obviously have some beef with each other. That or they’re simply blowing it all out of proportion for the sake of ratings.

It’s no secret that the idea of a singing competition show has become more than played out in recent years, making the ratings competition between the shows very interesting.

American Idol, The Voice, and X-Factor all seem to be battling it out by trying to get the best names in the industry to be featured on their show. American Idol made that very clear when they hired the “Roman’s Revenge” rapper to be a judge when she doesn’t do much singing herself.

Perhaps that’s why the “We Belong Together” crooner hung up on American Idol producers after they informed her that Minaj was in the final stages of negotiations to appear on the show.

Of course, Carey isn’t fessing up to any drama between her and her new co-judge.

“Tension? What Tension,” the 49-year-old mother of twins replied after photographers asked her about the beef between her and the self proclaimed Harijuku Barbie.

Their bitter attitudes towards each other are enough to make you forget that at one point, the ladies teamed up together to create the hit song “Up Out My Face,” where Carey joined Minaj in becoming a Barbie for the video shoot.

It seems as if the new judge’s panel – Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey, Keith Urban, and returning judge Randy Jackon – will have a very different dynamic than the previous panel – Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler – who were very friendly and playful with each other throughout the entire season.

Of course, who can blame them for putting the feuding ladies on the same panel when every reality show on television has proved that perhaps the only thing that can sell better than sex is drama.

American Idol’s 12th season is set to air in January, where there is sure to be even more catty encounters between the two ladies of the judge’s panel.
