Aaliyah’s Family Denies They Are Releasing New Aaliyah Album

As dissent grows around Drake for using vocals from the late Aaliyah on one of his songs, Aaliyah’s family said that they have no plans to release an album by Aaliyah.

“There is no official album being released and supported by the Haughton family,” Aaliyah’s brother Rashad Haughton said in a post on Aaliyah’s Facebook fan page.

Drake’s song, “Enough Said,” features Aaliyah vocals that have never been heard publicly. The entire Drake project has drawn raised eyebrows from Aaliyah’s former recording partners and friends Missy Elliott and Timbaland, who feel they should be involved in any Aaliyah endeavors.

“I know they trying to drop some Aaliyah records, but if he do it, it should be with me and Missy [Elliot]. The proper way for him to do that would be for me, him and Missy to be all on the record. But to put it on his record, would just not be right,”  Timbaland said on New York’s Power 105.1 radio station.

Aaliyah’s brother Rashad also squashed rumors of a biopic being in the works.

“No female I’ve seen can play my sister,” he said on the fan page.

Aaliyah died 11 years ago, August 25, 2001, at the age of 21 when she was on a chartered plane that crashed in the Bahamas. Eight other people also perished in the crash.
