DOLCE & GABBANA’s debut couture collection has finally been revealed – and you can see it here. They told us it was on the cards during the VogueFestival, and earlier this week Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana unveiled the 73-look collection at an intimate, invitation-only salon presentation in Sicily – Dolce’s birthplace.
Held in the cloisters of a former monastery, the show was a closely-guarded secret – attended only by select press and the multi-millionaire clients the line is intended to service. Pictures were strictly forbidden, as was Tweeting about the show’s few celebrity guests (Scarlett Johanssonand Stephanie Seymour, since you were wondering) – to protect the dresses, and the customers who will pay thousands and wait months for them, from over-exposure.
Produced in their new couture atelier in Milan, the offering was everything you would expect from a Dolce & Gabbana couture line: Sicilian lace; corsetry; delicate embellishment; sexy sheerness melded with buttoned-up primness; bows; jewels; hand-painted florals – but each piece was more intricate, more artisan than anything we have ever seen from them.
