Sony released its Playstation 4 gaming console today to the delight of kids and gamers around the world. Sony, who was once the dominant console maker with its PS2, took a slight step back in recent years with its PS3 model as Xbox and Nintendo Wii snatched up market share. Now Sony is looking to reclaim its dominance with the new PS4.
As reported by usatoday.com:
“With the PlayStation 4, it’s clear Sony wants that top spot back. Badly. Its latest video game console, available Friday, represents an impressive package for video game players, with significant improvements to the controller and menus, and fresh features such as game sharing. It’s especially intriguing at $399, which is $100 less than the Xbox One out one week later, and well below the $500-$600 launch price of PS3.”
Even before the launch of the Playstation 4, the console was getting good reviews from the tech industry, and now that it’s officially in people’s hands Sony seems to have a hit.
According to theverge.com:
“We’ve had only a precious couple days with the PlayStation 4 — and even less time with its online capabilities. At first glance, it feels like Sony’s gone a long way toward fixing what ailed the PS3, and toward enabling a much better and more impressive gaming experience going forward. It doesn’t feel ambitious like the Xbox One, but it feels like a really solid gaming console.”
During this upcoming holiday season the Sony Playstation 4 will battle it out with the Microsoft’s Xbox One for video game console dominance. So while the initial reviews are positive, it’s overall sales and market share that will tell the true story in the upcoming months.
