Last week Drake released the artwork for his upcoming album, “Nothing Was The Same,” which had its release postponed one week, until Sept. 24. The album artwork features a painting by artist Kadir Nelson, with a child version of Drake staring at his present-day self. As Drake explained to MTV in the video:
“It’s a child version of myself staring at myself now,” Drake says. “When I try to think back through this journey, it’s so hard to pinpoint all these moments and it gets foggy. Even on past albums when I been trying to tell this story, I’ve got there, but maybe not got there all the way.”
He continued,”What that album art is to me is that this is my most clear, concise thoughts from now and my best recollection of then.”
Drake brought the present-day version of the painting to life during his MTV VMA performances of “Hold On We’re Going Home” and “Started From The Bottom” on Sunday.
