When news first broke that there was going to be a new Star Wars trilogy, speculation immediately began on what would be the story for the new films. Would they bring back the characters we know and love, nay, worship, from the original movies? Perhaps even with the original actors? Even though that would be an awful, uninspired idea? El Mayimbe of Latino Review says that something like that is exactly what the filmmakers are going for, as Harrison Ford is supposedly back as Han Solo for Star Wars: Episode VII: Title TBA.
Now, this is not an official announcement from Lucasfilm or Disney. This is a rumor. But Latino Review has a really, really good track record with digging up scoops on Hollywood developments. Plus, it sounds pretty much exactly like something that would be done, since Disney is going to ensure that this movie is as safe, unchallenging, and financially fail-proof as possible. And what better way to do that than by torquing people’s nostalgia in the most blatant way possible? This isn’t even the first time this has been done with Harrison Ford – the ploy worked like gangbusters for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Star Wars: Episode VII: The Quest for More Money comes out some time in 2015. So there’s at least a year and a half left of empty “news” like this.*
