Mark Wahlberg has landed the new lead role in Michael Bay’s Transformers 4 movie. Bay reported via his website that the Ted star had been given the role following a successful stint on his bodybuilding-themed action comedy Pain & Gain.
Initially Bay dismissed the many internet stories which placed Wahlberg in the part as mere speculation, but the director then announced that the rumors had sparked an idea in his head, and now Wahlberg is officially attached. (Wahlberg should thank the many internet websites who catapulted him into the spot)
“Mark is awesome,” wrote Bay on Thursday. “We had a blast working on Pain & Gain and I’m so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his calibre is the perfect guy to reinvigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers legacy.
Wahlberg takes over the character from actor Shia LaBeouf, who played in the first three installation but decided to step away from the series following 2011’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon. LaBeouf openly described the third Transformers as “crap” and expressed his dislike for working with the studio on the project.
Transformers 4 will open on June 27, 2014.
