Universal has released the first Les Miserables teaser trailer featuring Anne Hathaway flexing her pipes with one of the show’s most famous songs.
The Tom Hooper-directed movie, is a drama based on the famed musical and Victor Hugo’s 1862 novel of the same name. Aside from Hathaway, the film boasts a star-studded cast, which includes Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, Helena Bonham Carter, Samantha Barks, and Aaron Tveit.
Hathaway stars as the dying prostitute Fantine, and is heard throughout the teaser singing her rendition of the sorrow-filled “I Dreamed a Dream.”
Producer Cameron Mackintosh attempted unsuccessfully to bring the musical to the big screen back in 1988. A different adaptation, which starred Liam Neeson, Geoffrey Rush, Uma Thurman, and Claire Danes, was released in 1998.
