The 54th annual Grammy Awards show surged in ratings on Sunday night during the music industry’s last minute televised tribute to Whitney Houston.
The three-and-a-half hour telecast attracted an impressive 39.9 million viewers, achieving the Grammys’ largest audience since 1984 and second-biggest viewership numbers ever.
The 2012 Grammys delivered a 14.1 adults 18-49 rating in primetime, up 41 percent from last year and matching its best since 1990.
One of the highlights of the ceremony was Jennifer Hudson singing “I Will Always Love You” as a tribute to Whitney Houston, who died Saturday afternoon at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. This may have dramatically boost the ratings as the award winning singer/actress was highly regarded by many.
