Yikes! Mel Gibson's Latest Movie Goes Directly To Cable TV

Once regarded as one of the most powerful men in Hollywood, Mel Gibson, who has gone from a top movie star to a shamed movie dud, has closed a deal to release his next movie “Get the Gringo”….on cable TV. The actor inked the lower level deal with DirecTV, which completely bypasses the traditional movie theater route.

In “Get the Gringo” Gibson plays a guy who lands in a Mexican jail, where he learns to survive, with the help of a nine year old boy.

The script was written and produced by Mel Gibson. Adrian Grunberg, who worked as a first assistant director with Gibson on “Apocalypto”, directed the film.

According to reports, the movie will premiere on satellite TV and it will cost subscribers $10.99 to watch it. Usually, DirecTV charges $4.99 or $5.99 for on-demand releases.

Gibson’s movie stardom recently sank as his last movie “The Beaver” stunk up the box office.  Also helping to diminish his success  were some very public and controversial meltdowns he’s been having over the past several years. These meltdowns included anti-Semitic and racially rants, all of which were recorded and leaked.

“Get the Gringo” will also be released via streaming video services and Blu-ray later this year.
