‘The Way I Cried’: Lil Baby Couldn’t Hold Back Tears After Blessing a Single Mother Who Clung to Him After a Man Betrayed Her Over a Green Card Scam

When it comes to philanthropic events, Lil Baby is all in.

The Atlanta-based rapper is no stranger to giving back to his community. In fact, he recently held his sixth annual Back To School Fest, which provided 4,000 students and attendees with school supplies, free haircuts, clothes, free food, giveaways, and more.

He recently linked up with TikToker Zachery Dereniowski, known as MDMotivator.

The influencer built an entire platform around apparently helping underserved individuals around the country. He currently has over 29 million followers across Instagram and TikTok.

Together, Dereniowski and Lil Baby teamed up to change a woman’s life by gifting her two blessings she couldn’t refuse.

In the Oct. 13 clip, the woman, whose name is Mia, had an overwhelming, tearful reaction of gratitude that even moved Lil Baby.

At the start of the video, Dereniowski walks up to Mia, who is sitting in a chair outside her apartment complex, selling her entire art collection.

When Dereniowski asks why, she says, “So I won’t get evicted tomorrow.”

Mia further explained her circumstances, saying, “A man came and he left me in $97,000 in debt. I give him a green card he says that’s the only reason why he married me for the green card because I’m too ugly. My skin is too dark, I’m too old.”

She tearfully said the man even took her vehicle but said she still maintains her faith in God.

Dereniowski told her he’d like to get a painting for his mom’s birthday, but that he doesn’t have any money.

The woman didn’t hesitate to let him have a painting for free. “Please have it and think of me when you pray,” she said before handing him the painting.

Mia’s daughter swings by to check on her mother before Dereniowski tells them both that his friend, Lil Baby, would like to buy paintings too.

The woman didn’t know who the rapper was, but her daughter showed she did by dropping her jaw.

Lil Baby asked Mia, “Can you trust us for a couple of minutes?” before blindfolding her and her daughter and walking to another unidentified area.

Dereniowski, who was seen walking with Mia’s daughter, said, “My mom, on her birthday in March, she was going to kill herself. So I did whatever I could to keep her here another day. I need her here. I don’t have any other parent.”

Seconds later, she removed the blindfolds before Lil Baby explained the surprise.

“So a part of the fresh start is going to be a brand new car for you,” the “Sum 2 Prove” rapper said.

Mia instantly clung to his arm before breaking down to the ground. Her daughter could be heard crying off camera in disbelief.

“And we are going to cover your expenses for it. We are going to make sure we pay your insurance, so you don’t have to worry about paying your insurance,” Lil Baby said.

Dereniowski pulled one more surprise from his trunk: a shoebox likely filled with money, though it wasn’t shown. Mia was then told, “We want to give you rent for a year. You’re no longer getting evicted.”

Her daughter responds, “No” three times before her mom runs over to hug Dereniowski. Lil Baby is so taken aback in a short clip that he wipes his tears away with his shirt.

Before the video ends, Mia insists Lil Baby take one of her paintings home. He responds, “God Bless you,” while hugging her.

One fan reacting to Lil Baby’s emotional response commented, “Lil Baby was doing all he could to not bawl his eyes out.”

A second person moved by Lil Baby’s reaction wrote, “Lil baby is such a W for showing his emotions and showing he truly cared.”

A third person became emotional from the entire video and said, “The way I just cried my lashes off.

Lil Baby also responded to the video, writing, “Thanks 4 letting me apart of the greatness you spread.”

In his last surprise video, Dereniowski linked with another famous Atlanta rapper that actually discovered Lil Baby.

Dereniowski paired up with Young Thug to surprise Keesha, an outreach resource specialist, with $1,000 so she can buy her dream ice cream truck. They also surprised Keesha with a car, after she revealed she had no vehicle.

Democracy needs journalism it can trust.

This election season, the stakes are higher than usual — and so is the pressure on newsrooms to soften their coverage, stay quiet, or just disappear. Independent reporting, the kind that answers to readers instead of advertisers or political pressure, matters more in a moment like this, not less.

For over 14 years, Atlanta Black Star has stayed independent and reader-funded. We have no corporate owner and no shareholders telling us what to cover or how to cover it. That independence is also our biggest vulnerability: nothing protects it except readers choosing to fund it directly.

Newspaper ad revenue has fallen more than 80% since 2005, and local newsrooms are closing at a rate of roughly two a week nationwide. When outlets go under in a moment like this, it's rarely the independent, reader-funded ones that get to stick around.

We know a request for support isn't why you came here. But without readers choosing to fund this work directly, the depth of reporting we can do at home and abroad shrinks along with everyone else's. If you're not in a position to give, that doesn't change how much we value you as a reader.

If you are able to, a recurring contribution does more for us than a single one-time gift, because it lets us plan the next investigation instead of just the next invoice. It takes about 30 seconds, no long form, no account. Thank you for continuing to support independent journalism and freedom of the press.
