John Boyega has pulled off a Hollywood disappearing act without ever leaving the spotlight.
The “Star Wars” actor has quietly built a life away from the cameras, leaving fans unaware of how much has changed behind the scenes. It was no small feat for an actor whose every move has been scrutinized since his blockbuster debut.
Somehow, Boyega kept one of the biggest milestones of his life off gossip blogs and even from his most devoted fans.

Now, the 34-year-old British star is finally letting the world in on his biggest secret: he’s married and a father.
After months of online speculation, Boyega has officially connected the dots for fans.
During an interview earlier this month, Boyega casually confirmed that he had secretly tied the knot by flashing a two-toned band on his left hand.
“Oh yeah, this is my wedding ring,” he told a reporter at The Guardian. “I’ve been married for coming up to two years now.”
Boyega refused to identify his wife in the interview. Instead, he made the grand announcement himself in an Instagram post.
The actor shared five photos of him and his family, including his wife, Lashontae Heckard.
Heckard, 14 years older, is an actress and model who has appeared in several television shows and films, including “The Game” and “ATL.” She introduced herself by changing her Instagram bio to “Tae Boyega.”
She posed in a blue dress with her husband cradling her belly and in another image with his sister. The actor also shared an image of the couple with his wife’s son from a previous relationship, Brandon Jennings Jr., 10. Brandon’s father is former NBA player Brandon Jennings.
Boyega ended the heartwarming collage with a sweet video of him holding their child.
“Our bundle of joy has been with us for some time now but thank you for all the well wishes,” he wrote in his caption. The “Who Cloned Tyrone” star also sent well wishes to his sister, who is expecting.
“Also, my sister is about to pop! Wish her well too! Back to feeding this big baby!” he concluded.
Boyega and Heckard have held back from revealing how and when they met, as well as their child’s name.
But the British entertainer did reveal a bit about how the couple skipped the extravagant ceremony. Their hope is to celebrate their marriage in Nigeria someday.
“We both like the idea of celebrating something established, rather than celebrating the entry,” he explained. “And by then, we’ll have to shut Nigeria down!”
It’s unclear how or when they met, but paparazzi first spotted Boyega and Heckard together at Disneyland in April 2025. By May, fans noticed matching wedding bands and discovered they were following each other on Instagram.
But the biggest breadcrumbs came directly from Boyega’s replies.
In September, Heckard joked in an Instagram post about avoiding weekend plans.
Boyega responded in her comments, “So this is why you cook Pounded yam and egusi on Saturdays?? a tactical weapon of mass plan-canceling. I’m onto you lover.”
Heckard replied, “Baba…..u feel the same way until summer rolls around….then I have no choice but to be outside on any given day.”
Another exchange went down in the comments, a month earlier, exposing their shopping habits. Boyega made a cheeky comment wondering how his wife could spend over two hours in Walmart.
Heckard replied, “Cus I love watching you put all my shenannies in the cart. Yum.”
The online reactions were immediate.
“I did notice that he was wearing a wedding ring during the Damiola documentary he was in the other day, so I’m not surprised to hear this. Congratulations to him. It just proves that celebrities can keep their private life private!” one X user wrote. Another exclaimed, “Two years ago?!?!?”
“Oh and trust he married a Black Queen!” someone celebrated. Another declared, “She won. Boyega is a major catch.”
Not everyone was impressed. One critic wrote, “She been on a generational run —bamboozling boys for the last 30 years.”
Heckard previously dated rapper Nelly and is also rumored to have dated NFL player Stefon Diggs.
Boyega previously told GQ in 2022 that he exclusively dated Black women and valued compatibility. His parents’ long marriage also influenced his views on commitment.
The actor rose to international fame playing Finn in the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy. He later earned acclaim for “Small Axe,” “The Woman King,” and “They Cloned Tyrone.”
The Nigerian Brit has also taken the stance that he should be identified as a “Black actor,” blasting other notables like Idris Elba for not embracing the title.
His career has also included controversy.
Boyega publicly criticized Disney’s treatment of Black characters in “Star Wars.” His outspoken support for racial justice also drew attention after he gave an emotional speech at a 2020 Black Lives Matter protest in London.
Now, while promoting the documentary “Damilola: The Untold Story” — a notorious case about the actor’s childhood friend who was murdered at 10 years old — Boyega appears more interested in family than Hollywood attention.
“I’ve tried to as much as possible – especially following periods when I’ve worked a lot – to de-centre my career,” he explained.
For Boyega, keeping his marriage private may have been his most successful production yet.
