Donald Trump has a public image problem where his advancing age too often contradicts his claim of being fit for the presidency.
In his first year back in office, the president pushed back against reports of his apparent decline. Meanwhile, episodes of slurred speech and brief naps became recurring subjects of public attention.
Former White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt offered a fiery defense. She claimed that Trump “works tirelessly, literally 24/7” to Make America Great Again. But new footage has raised more questions about what the White House isn’t saying.
Leavitt left her post in late August, trading podium rants for more time with her husband and two children, less than two years into Trump’s second term.
No permanent replacement has been announced, and press briefings are less frequent. Yet the administration makes little effort to control the narrative regarding Trump’s health.
Even more striking, Trump continues to make leisurely appearances despite brutal photographs and videos depicting him as fatigued, adrift, and increasingly in need of assistance.
Moreover, those appearances fuel the public ridicule he can’t seem to escape.
Questions about his physical stamina, along with speculation surrounding Natalie Harp. Trump’s executive assistant has become a constant companion and shows no signs of letting up.
The perfect storm of an orchestrated photo opportunity backfiring unfolded after Trump attended the Presidents Cup golf tournament at Medinah Country Club in Illinois on Sunday, Sept. 27.
He smiled for the cameras, delivered a few remarks, and presented the winning team with the trophy.
However, his cheer seemed to fade by the time photographers captured Trump and Harp aboard Marine One after they returned to Washington, D.C., later that evening.
A clip circulating on social media showed Trump seated inside the helicopter, appearing to let out several exasperated sighs. Harp came over soon after and sat in front of him, her back blocking the window.
She appeared to fidget with a bag before briefly looking down to reach for something. Trump readjusted himself in his seat.
To many observers, the optics suggested she was aiding the president.
“It looks like he is having a medical event. What better cover for a round the clock nurse than a crazed mistress? Makes Trump seem virile while in reality it looks like she is removing a medical device of some sort,” an IG Threads user wrote.
“Is she checking his vitals?” a second viewer wondered. A third detractor quipped, “Not quite as grand as he wishes to be seen.”
The previous day, Trump attended the Texas Longhorns-Tennessee Volunteers college football game in Knoxville, Tennessee.
After the game, video circulating on social media showed him seated inside the presidential limousine, with some viewers interpreting his breathing and movements as signs that he appeared to be short of breath.
A reaction stated, “Is it just me or does Trump look like he’s extremely out of breath just sitting in the car?”
Trump has appeared winded on multiple occasions, including in June when he briefly spoke to reporters on Capitol Hill.
The Marine One health discourse reignited rumors suggesting that Harp, an executive assistant, was hired as a caregiver. Although some people are convinced she takes on a more romantic role, too.
One such comment read, “Is Natalie really his nurse??? And she carries a medical bag?”
Photographers routinely capture her carrying an overstuffed tote bag, whose exact contents remain a mystery.
One online theory suggested, “She is adjusting or taking off his exoskeleton. That’s what the bag is for!”
The speculation stems from viral videos highlighting bulges in Trump’s trousers, boxy outlines beneath his jacket, and subtle shifts in his gait.
Online users frequently claim these visual cues reveal a device intended to assist with his movement — wild theories that match the color of Trump’s own rally anecdotes about an obese friend, teen weightlifters, and claims about supporters fawning over his leadership.
Yet, the White House has declined to address the online theories, choosing instead to point to his cognitive test results as proof that he suffered no undisclosed health setbacks.
