Nolan Wells’ mother is pushing back against critics who have turned their attention to her marriage as she continues searching for answers about her son’s death.
Christine Wonsley made a Facebook post on Monday responding to a picture someone took with her sitting next to an unidentified male.
“If you’re going to take pics make sure to include Nolan’s father Elmore who is ALWAYS present for his children because that’s the kind of father he is,” Wonsley wrote.
Many people in the comments rallied behind Wonsley with support.
“I can’t tell you how sorry I am that people are like this, and that you’re their target, simply for wanting answers. I’m genuinely ashamed of a lot of people, and question whether they’re even human. #JusticeForNolan,” one user wrote.
“I’m so sorry you’ve had to go through this. The way the true colors of these people has come out is heart breaking. But we are expected to believe racist doesn’t exist. Keep fighting momma. We want answers to,” another commented.
Football Season Brings Heavy Memories
The picture of Wonsley appears to have been taken as she was sitting in the stands watching a game. The mother has two other children who currently play football at Ocean Springs High School in Mississippi.
Wells also played football at Ocean Springs. According to CNN, the school’s season opener had no moment of silence, visible memorials, signs, ribbons or public tributes in honor of the teen.
Upon graduating, Wells attended Southwest Mississippi Community College. He would have been entering his sophomore season.
“Today we should’ve been talking to Nolan about how excited he was about game day! He rarely missed any practices, always showed up, and never had any suspensions. He was a dedicated student-athlete,” Wonsley said on what would have been Wells’ season opener.
Elmore Wonsley echoed his wife’s sentiments. “As I sit here in these bleachers getting ready to watch my two youngest sons play tonight. I’m filled with mixed emotions. Because in a perfect world, I would not only be watching my two youngest sons play, but I would also be watching my older son, Nolan, play his first game of the season on my tablet.”
Repeated Threats and No Answers
This is not the first time Wonsley has had to respond to threats. The family received threats and hate mail only two weeks after Wells’ body was found on Horn Island.
Wonsley’s job as a nurse practitioner was also targeted. It started with negative reviews being left on the job’s website. Then the Mississippi Board of Nursing launched an investigation after an anonymous complaint. That investigation was quickly closed.
No one has been arrested for threats against Wells’ family.
In the meantime, the family is still hoping for answers sooner rather than later. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating.
