The latest escalation in the Iran war arrived not with a missile launch or a diplomatic threat, but with a disturbing video aimed at President Donald Trump’s 20-year-old son.
Iranian state media aired a three-minute clip portraying Barron Trump as a target, claiming to track his movements and even appearing to identify places connected to his college life.
The video ended with an ominous warning: “This is just the beginning! Barron Trump, wait for us!”
The chilling broadcast marks a new and deeply personal turn in the confrontation between Trump and Tehran, dragging the president’s family into a propaganda campaign that has already featured threats against Trump, First Lady Melania Trump and other relatives.
The U.S. Secret Service is now on high alert to assess a threat that is both political theater and potentially something far more serious.
Iran has purportedly placed a $10 million bounty on Barron, though that claim — along with the video’s assertions regarding his movements, security detail, and classmates — could not be independently verified.
The video, titled “Where to kill Barron Trump,” claimed that Barron was “fully monitored” and featured depictions of the New York University facility where he studies. It also claimed to have uncovered accounts belonging to Barron and his classmates on Xbox, FIFA video games and Discord, while naming two of his classmates. The material was distributed through media linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, according to the source material.

“The U.S. Secret Service is aware of the video and investigates anything that can be perceived as a threat toward our protectees,” a spokesperson told The New York Post. “Out of concern for operational security, we do not discuss matters of protective intelligence.”
The latest threat comes as the Trump administration dramatically escalates its economic pressure campaign against Tehran.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced on Monday that the United States is preparing to impose punishing sanctions on countries, companies and financial institutions that continue doing business with Iran — putting Trump’s threatened “economic D-Day” into motion.
“Let there be no ambiguity as to the position of the United States,” Bessent said at a news conference. “An economic engagement of any kind with this murderous regime will expose those responsible to the full reach of American power.”
Trump celebrated the pressure campaign on social media on Monday, writing, “IRAN IS COMPLETELY COLLAPSING!!!”
Bessent had previewed the campaign as the administration searched for a way to pressure Tehran without immediately launching another round of military strikes.
“We are now entering the endgame. At dawn begins an economic D-Day — the single greatest financial offensive ever marshaled against an adversary,” Bessent teased.
The financial pressure comes as Iran’s economy struggles under the continuing U.S. barrage.
The rial plunged to a historic low of roughly 2.02 million to the dollar on open markets, while Iranian leaders publicly acknowledged the severe economic strain. Parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf appeared to call for a deal with Washington while acknowledging the limits of Iran’s ability to withstand the economic strain.
“No matter how much military power we have, if people are hungry and we do not have financial circulation and economic growth, we will not endure,” Ghalibaf warned.
The threats against Trump’s family, meanwhile, are not new. In July, an IRGC-linked video titled “Where to Kill Melania?” similarly claimed to know Melania Trump’s location, according to the Post. Another video, “Where to Kill Trump?!,” claimed to show the routes used by Trump’s motorcade between his residences in Florida and New York.
Billboards and murals in Tehran have also depicted Trump and his family as dead. One showed Trump, Melania and all five of his children above coffins with the words “Blood for Blood.” Another depicted Trump in a coffin beneath the English-language message “We Kill Trump,” the Post reported last month.
The imagery has appeared amid longstanding Iranian anger toward Trump, particularly over his January 2020 drone strike that killed Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani. The source material also says Iran is reeling from the death of its late Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, in a joint U.S.-Israeli airstrike in late February.
Trump himself has acknowledged that Iran has targeted him and warned of devastating retaliation if he were assassinated.
“I’ve been on their list for a long time. That’s what we’re dealing with,” Trump previously stated. “… The only thing is, I’ve left instructions — if anything happens, to just literally bomb them at levels that they’ve never seen before.”
The danger was palpable last month after Trump abruptly left the NATO summit in Turkey following an intelligence alert regarding a potential Iranian attack on his $400 million Qatari jet. To ensure his safe departure, officials orchestrated an elaborate shell game.
In full view of press cameras, Trump appeared to board Air Force One. However, officials secretly moved him to a smaller military transport inside an airport catering truck, leaving the high-profile presidential plane, carrying reporters and Cabinet members, to serve as a decoy.
Meanwhile, online reactions to the threats against Barron Trump mounted quickly, with critics contending that the administration’s own aggressive rhetoric had contributed to a volatile political climate where such threats emerge.
One social media user wrote, “‘So the US president threatened to kill an entire civilization and exterminate Iran, and you’re surprised that Iran out a bounty on everyone in his family?
Remember, absolutely all of this was 100% avoidable.”
Another invoked Trump’s past comments about terrorists and their relatives, saying, “’You have to go after their families’ – Donald Trump, about terrorists. Karma, Don.”
A third reaction made the same comparison: “Didn’t Trump say we have to target the families of terrorists? Sauce for the goose…”
