Republicans are up in arms over the outcome of the Michigan Democratic Senate primary after a progressive Muslim American doctor narrowly beat out a sitting congresswoman in a divisive campaign in the key battleground state.
An irate President Donald Trump cursed and swore during a speech in Las Vegas Wednesday, the morning after Dr. Abdul El-Sayed won the race against moderate Democratic congresswoman Haley Stevens.
The president lashed out. He attacked El-Sayed and proclaimed he’s ” a man of hate” and “full of sh-t” before making the primary outcome in Michigan all about himself.
Trump Bashes El-Sayed
“Abdul El-Sayed. Do you believe this? This could only happen to me. Abdul El-Sayed. Lovely gentleman,” Trump groused to the Vegas MAGA crowd.
He then accused the 41-year-old progressive of deceiving voters.
“A man of hate, and now he’s going around saying, ‘No, I love everybody.’ He doesn’t love everybody. Put him in office; you’re going to find out what he loves,” Trump raged.
“He doesn’t love Israel. He doesn’t love Jewish people. He hates them. He hates them with a passion that burns in his heart, and there’s not a fricking thing he can do about it. There’s not a thing he can do about it because he hates them,” the president ranted, becoming so upset he used profanity to make his point.
“When I watch Abdul, he’s full of sh-t,” Trump shockingly declared.
El-Sayed has repeatedly said he would represent all Michigan citizens equally, regardless of race or religion.
“My commitment to Jewish safety is the same commitment that I have to the safety of my own daughters,” he said on the campaign trail, according to Time Magazine.
Social media erupted in anger and disdain over Trump’s gutter talk.
“He scared he know his time coming to an end,” an Instagram user proclaimed
This poster agreed, “Anytime he attacks, he’s SCARED.”
Others called out Trump’s crude talk.
“How can a President of a country, entrusted with constitutional authority, use such vulgar language?” one commenter remarked.
Another chimed in.
“What kind of example does this set for future generations?”
Trump also claimed without any proof whatsoever that rampant voter fraud in Michigan played a part in El-Sayed’s victory.
Trump Allies Respond to El-Sayed’s Win
But Trump wasn’t the only one bashing progressive Democrats. Vice President JD Vance also took a swipe at El-Sayed after his primary win.
“We don’t want the next administration, whoever you know, God forbid, you’re going to have President El-Sayed in three years. We don’t want him to undo all the incredible work that we’ve been doing,” Vance whined, seemingly announcing a presidential bid for El-Sayed, even though he hasn’t even won his Senate race yet.
House Speaker Mike Johnson also lashed out in a post on X Wednesday. He accused progressive Democrats like El-Sayed and New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani of being “radical Marxist Democrats.”
“Democrats now openly express disdain for America and embrace the failed, dangerous, deadly path of COMMUNISM. We must take a stand and FIGHT to protect the greatest nation in the history of the world from being overrun by Mini Mamdanis,” a bitter Johnson falsely stated.
Mamdani Calmly Responds to GOP Dig
At a press conference, reporters asked Mamdani about Johnson’s comments, and he calmly pointed out the obvious.
“I think it shows you how deeply out of touch the Republican Party is with the concerns of working-class Americans, because what we have seen is, despite him [El-Sayed] facing more than $60 million in outside spending, he was able to prevail with a focus on a cost of living crisis and the way in which health care is exceedingly out of reach for those who have helped to make this country what it is,” the mayor explained.
The American Israel Public Affairs Committee, or AIPAC, and other outside groups spent upwards of $60 million on Michigan’s Democratic primary to support Stevens. El-Sayed managed to beat her anyway.
The pro-Israel group has been extremely successful in recent years. It has helped unseat candidates who disagree with AIPAC or challenge unwavering support for Israel.
Mamdani Applauded for Response
Social media embraced Mamdani and praised him for his clear-eyed and even-keeled response to Johnson’s vitriolic post.
“Notice how Mamdani responded maturely without name-calling or throwing a tantrum? Now that’s a true leader,” an Instagram user remarked.
Others agreed.
“So gratifying hearing a politician speak in clear, coherent, and truthful sentences. No hate, no disrespect, just honest speech. Bravo.”
“Oh no!! You mean we’re being overrun by intelligent, competent, and compassionate politicians who are actually in politics for the correct reasons?? What ever will we do????” this commenter sarcastically joked.
The Associated Press reported that El-Sayed beat Stevens by less than a percentage point in a primary that saw record turnout of more than 1.5 million voters, the most for a primary in recent decades in Michigan.
El-Sayed will face former Republican congressman Mike Rogers in the upcoming midterm elections in November. The race could determine which party controls the Senate.
