Eddie Murphy Spotted in Iconic Varsity Jacket on Set of Netflix’s New ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ Movie

Eddie Murphy is officially back as Detroit Police Detective Axel Foley in an upcoming “Beverly Hills Cop” sequel after the Golden Globe-nominated actor was spotted sporting the iconic varsity jacket on the set of the fourth installment of the legendary franchise.

Murphy has reprised his role as the fan-favorite detective for the new Netflix-presented film almost three decades since the actor appeared as the street-smart cop in “Beverly Hills Cop III” in 1994. In snaps captured by the Daily Mail, the 61-year-old wore black-and-gray Detroit Lions apparel.

According to What’s On Netflix, the forthcoming movie’s synopsis goes as follows: “Axel Foley returns to Beverly Hills once more after receiving a phone call from an old friend warning that his estranged daughter Jane might be in danger. Quickly making new enemies as he teams up with Jane and her ex, Detective Bobby Tapia, Axel finds himself caught up in a conspiracy stretching between deadly cartels and even the Beverly Hills Police.”

The film is currently in pre-production. News of the franchise’s return came in November 2019 after several years of reported delays and studio changes. The action movie is set to be directed by Australian director Mark Molloy after Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah left the project last April.

More cast members from the original franchise are expected to return, including Judge Reinhold and John Ashton’s Detective Billy Rosewood and Sgt. Taggart, sidekick cops to the Eddie Murphy character; Paul Reiser; and Bronson Pinchot.

Murphy will serve as producer alongside Jerry Bruckheimer, and Melissa Reid, while Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec, and Will Beall have taken over as writers.

Murphy’s last work with Netflix was for the biographical comedy film “Dolemite Is My Name.” The actor portrayed blaxploitation star Rudy Ray Moore in a role that earned Golden Globe nominations for Best Picture and Musical/Comedy and for Murphy as Best Actor in a Musical/Comedy Feature.
