‘People That are Calling My Children the N-word’: Meghan Markle Opens Up About Continued Alleged Racism from British Media

Meghan Markle’s time as a member of the Royal family has been arduous. She and her husband, Prince Harry, shared their story during a bombshell tell-all with Oprah Winfrey, where they spoke on alleged mistreatment and racism. During a recent interview, the former Duchess of Sussex opened up about her relationship with the British press, claiming they called her children the N-word.

“Why would I give the very people that are calling my children the N-word a photo of my child before I can share it with the people that love my child,” the former actress told The Cut regarding why she’s declined to give pictures of her son to the Royal Rota. This press pool covers the Royal family. “You tell me how that makes sense, and then I’ll play that game,” she added.

Initially, the Hollywood star was allowed to join a preexisting social media account that Harry, Kate, and Will would also contribute to — with her adhering to a previously established set of rules regarding publicly sharing photos.

“There’s literally a structure by which if you want to release photos of your child, as a member of the family, you first have to give them to the Royal Rota,” she said.

However, the actress revealed that before their son Archie’s birth, she and Prince Harry created their own Instagram, noting that they refused to play the “exchange game.” The pair posted what they pleased and even shared an image that had not yet made it to the Royal Rota.

Markle and Prince Harry have since left social media, shutting down their page when they unexpectedly stepped back from their royal roles, which they officially quit in February 2021.

The “Suits” alum’s recent sit-down has reportedly since caused a call for concern. According to Radar Online, there have been “emergency meetings’ ‘ within the Royal Family about the former duchess’ continued claims of racism.

The “Deal or No Deal” alum told Winfrey that her experience as a member of the Royal family has caused her to have thoughts of taking her own life. “I was really ashamed to have to say it at the time and ashamed to have to admit it to Harry especially, but I knew that if I didn’t say that, I would do it,” the “Archetypes” podcast host explained in March 2021. “I just didn’t want to be alive anymore.”
