‘I’m Winning H–!’: Lizzo Claps Back at Haters While Accepting VMA Award Following Aries Spears’ Fatphobic Comments

Lizzo received a standing ovation after her legendary clapback at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Aug. 28, following fatphobic comments about her made by comedian Aries Spears.

While accepting the Video for Good award, for her popular hit, “About Damn Time,” the 34-year-old thanked everyone who voted for her and then pulled a 2015 Nicki Minaj by publicly addressing some hateful words that were made about her weight.

“And now, to the b— that got something to say about me in the press.”

Fans and celebrities began to go crazy in excitement waiting to hear more from her, however Lizzo quickly changed her mind and decided to take a different approach by explaining why she doesn’t entertain trolls who throw shade at her

“You know what, I’m not even going to say nothing. They be like, ‘Lizzo why don’t you clap back, why don’t you clap back?’ ‘Cuz b— I’m winning h–. Big b—s winning h–!”

The artist received an overwhelmingly large amount of cheers from those in the audience as she exited the stage with a large smile placed on her face.

Lizzo’s name has been mentioned in the press a lot lately, not by her own doing. In an “Art of Dialogue” interview, stand-up comedian Aries Spears decided to comment on her weight after he was asked about her music.

“I can’t get past the fact that she looks like the s— emoji. She got a very pretty face, but she keeps showing her body off, n–. Like come on man. Come on yo.”

He continued to fat shame the three-time Grammy Award winner by saying she’s built “like a plate of mashed potatoes.”

Lizzo fans quickly defended her name against Spears, who then made another video aimed at her stans. He expressed that their opinions of him won’t “break his soul,” as he formed duck lips and enlarged his eyes to “Break My Soul” by Beyoncé

Following her speech, Lizzo recently came forward and clarified who her speech was geared toward in a tweet: “Lemma make one thing VERY clear – I wasn’t addressing anybody in my speech last night… I was addressing EVERYBODY [kiss emoji]”

The beloved artist has received a lot of uninvited opinions from people regarding her physical appearance, but she still stands tall, while reminding people she’s one hundred percent “that girl.”
