Beloved music veteran Chaka Zulu is said to be in stable condition after he was reportedly shot in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood Sunday night, June 26.
Former Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed made a statement to Channel 2 News on behalf of Zulu’s family. “We are fortunate to report that Chaka Zulu is in stable condition and recovering,” Reed said. “The family thanks everyone for their well wishes and prayers, and asks for their privacy at this time.”
According to an incident report, officers responded to a call that multiple people were shot at 2293 Peachtree Road around 11:35 p.m.
APD has confirmed that Chaka was one of the surviving shooting victims. The co-founder of Disturbing Tha Peace Records is reportedly in ICU at an Atlanta hospital after being shot near APT 4B, a restaurant and bar where Zulu hosts weekly events.
The 41-year-old was allegedly shot three times. Sources say that he was walking a few women from the bar to their car, when he allegedly got into it with a few guys the women knew. Officers found three male victims with gunshot wounds, including one, who is believed to be one of the shooters, that was later pronounced dead.
A suspect is reportedly already in custody although details on Zulu’s status are scarce at the moment. Without knowing all the facts, fans began writing uplifting messages and sending prayers to his family in the comments section of his most recent Instagram post. On Wednesday, June 22, Zulu shared a photo of himself posing with rapper Pusha T.
One person said, ” Praying for u sir, I know u will be Ok.” Another wrote, “We love you! You’ll get through this!”
Shad “Bow Wow” Moss added, “Big dawg! Shake that off bounce back! You in all of our prayers!!!!! U got this fam!”
Chaka Zulu is one of the most respected executives in the music industry. Aside from being Ludacris‘ longtime manager, he co-founded Disturbing Tha Peace with Luda and their business partner Jeff Dixon in 1998. The independent label was home to many artists including Shawna, Bobby V, Chingy, I-20, Field Mob and others ended up brokering a joint venture with Def Jam/Universal and becoming the first team to head up Def Jam South.
The shooter is still on the loose.
