Mary J. Blige is getting candid about certain life decisions, including if she ever plans to start a family and some have children.
At 51 years old, the singer’s schedule is still busy. Last month, the New York native gave an unforgettable performance at the Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show alongside Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and Kendrick Lamar, with a surprise appearance from rapper 50 Cent. The “Power Book II: Ghost” actress also released her 14th studio album “Good Morning Gorgeous,” her first studio effort in nearly five years.
While promoting her latest studio effort during an appearance on “Daily Pop,” Blige revealed that though she’s ventured into other avenues of creativity, there’s seemingly zero chance she’ll be traveling down the path of motherhood, citing her schedule and her need for freedom.
“I have nieces and nephews forever, and I’m always watching how people are scrambling around for babysitters. I don’t want to go through that. I like my freedom. I like being able to get up and go and move and do what I want to do. I don’t want to have to tend to someone all the time,” the “No More Drama” singer explained. She noted, “Right now, that’s where I’m at. But, I don’t think … it’s not happening.”
The singer appeared to garner tons of support from social media critics. One Instagram user commented, “And there is nothing wrong with that!” That person added, “ I don’t take the decision to have children or get married lightly. It’s enough of that going on. When it’s my time, it’ll be my time. Until then, palm trees and shopping sprees.”
Fashion designer and creative Ashlee Muhammad commented, “I Have FOUR & I Feel Her” She added, “Heavy On The Scrambling For A Babysitter Cause It Is NOT Fun!”
Several people pointed out how offensive it may be to ask a woman when they plan on starting a family, including one person who commented, “I hate when ppl ask other ppl that.. It’s cringy.” They continued, “Some ppl can’t have kids and don’t want to keep explaining that to ppl over and over.. Luckily that’s not Mary problem.. But not everyone wants kids and that’s their business too.”
Until her divorce in 2016, the “Be Without You” played stepmom to her ex-husband Kendu Isaacs’ three children, whom the music executive fathered in previous relationships.
