‘Amazing’: Gabrielle Union Dishes on Her and Daughter Kaavia Becoming Part-Owners of a Professional Soccer Team

Gabrielle Union and her daughter Kaavia James Union-Wade has become quite the internet sensation thanks to her spotlight-stealing antics. Fans online have often gushed over the 3-year-old toddler, thanks to adorable posts the “Bring It On” star shares on social media. During a recent interview, Union opened about their mommy-daughter relationship and what it’s like being business partners

Last month, in a press release, the Angel City Football Club (ACFC) announced that the entrepreneur and the “3-year-old influencer” were now part-owners of the Angel City FC professional women’s soccer team.

What made the deal even more trailblazing was Kaavia passing a group of 19-year-olds who own a semi-professional club in Surrey, England, who were once considered the youngest club owners in the sport.

In a recent appearance on the Tameron Hall to discuss her latest film “Cheaper By the Dozen,” Union opened about their latest venture telling host Hall, “I love that what we did as a collective, you know, Serena Williams and her daughter, Olympia, they kicked us off into ownership, and then you know, followed up with Candace Parker and her daughter Lailaa, and they were like, ‘Come on, we got to complete the trifecta.’ And so me and Kaav dove in, and it is amazing.”

The 49-year-old revealed that her relationship with the sport began early. “I played soccer my whole life. So I’m a huge fan, and I was usually one of the only Black people as far as the eye could see on those soccer fields in those tournaments.” The award-winning actress added that “So to be a part of ownership and to see our team is so diverse and it’s so amazing. We are International Women’s Day every day.”

Union’s other endeavors include a baby skin care brand geared toward Black babies and a hair care line, Flawless for Black hair. She also owns a clothing line with the former Miami Heat star and the toddler in collaboration with children’s apparel company Janie and Jack.

When asked if she had any guilt when balancing the family, the veteran actress admitted, “Every day.” she continued, “So when I walk into, you know, whether it’s preschool or we took her to dance class for the first time in Atlanta, you know, last week, and she’s like, ‘That’s my mom, Gabrielle Union.’ And I’m like, ‘Do I need a name tag in my house?’

She added, “But it just makes you feel like ‘Dang, I’m gone too much where she feels like she has to claim me, publicly, you know, to everybody. Like ‘that’s my mom.’ I’m like, ‘well, don’t people know?’”
