Earlier this week, Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in London unveiled a new wax figure of Emmy-winning actress Zendaya, which has many noticing discrepancies in their likeness.
The wax figurine is modeled after Zendaya’s 2016 appearance at the Humane Society of the United States “To The Rescue Gala.” She wore a bold neon pink suit paired with a classic smoky eye and a sophisticated low bun.
The image quickly became a meme on Twitter after fans pointed out the differences between Zendaya’s face and the wax figurine.
One person tweeted, “The wax version of Zendaya looks like she wants to speak to the manager. Another said, “Zendaya needs to see someone in charge…asap.”
A third person asked, “Why does Zendaya’s wax figure look like a flight attendant?”
Meanwhile, others suggested that the replica looks like Kylie Jenner or the late Naya Rivera. “Um.. Zendaya wax figure is giving me Kylie. Ion like that,” a fourth person wrote. Another said, “If you cover the lips it’s Zendaya. If you cover the eyes it’s Naya Rivera.”
Many were highly upset at Madame Tussauds’ depiction of Black entertainers, which prompted users to dig up unrecognizable wax figures of Beyoncé. One person said, “Zendaya’s Madame Tussauds wax figure is horrible. Why is it so hard for them to make Black People?”
Despite the critical response, some users came to the museum’s defense, including one person tweeting, “that wax figure looks almost exactly like zendaya idk what y’all are talking about.”
Another tweeted, “Why are people so pressed about the Zendaya wax figure, she’s one of the most beautiful people ever they’re not gonna be able to emulate that in a wax figure hahaha they did their best like.”
The “Euphoria” actress hasn’t responded to the wax figure at the time of this writing.
